Amongst the other technologies which are used for air purification system is the Photohydroionization™ System which is an advanced oxidation system that consists of a UV-Ozone producing bulb (185nm) targeted on a catalyst target. The technology which produces low-level ozone, hydro peroxides and super oxide ions is a low maintenance technology that requires low cost annual maintenance and is easy to install.

The concentration of ozone that is produced by the device is higher then the previously discussed air purification technologies and the 0.04 ppm concentration of ozone that is generated by this device are near the Federal limit for ozone devices. The relatively high levels of ozone produced by this device can be of concern to some individuals and another disadvantage of this device is that it there can be leakage of mercury into the atmosphere as a result of a broken bulb. Mercury is a harmful and toxic substance and any mercury leakage into the environment is undesirable. Hence the system requires inspections and monitoring in order to ensure that it is functioning correctly. This technology has not been designed for the HVAC systems and is on the border of United States ozone safety limits (David, 2002).
